About the Auction

The special auction of individual volumes of Stoy Hedges’ collection of the Handbook of Pest Control launched on October 21 at 8:00 a.m. and closes on October 31 at 5:00 p.m. Each volume will be auctioned off individually. Opening bids are higher for rarer editions. Bid increases require a $10 increase.

This rare set includes all ten editions of the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control, first published in 1945 and longPi Chi Omega Mallis Auction regarded as the definitive “bible” of structural pest management. The collection was owned and cherished by Stoy Hedges—a consummate insect enthusiast, educator, and honorary Pi Chi Omega member. Throughout his distinguished career, Stoy relied on these volumes and even served as editorial director for the 8th, 9th, and 10th editions.

Stoy passed away in December 2023 at age 64, following complications during heart transplant surgery. His wife, Kathy, generously donated his treasured collection so it could continue to inspire and educate others. She shared that Stoy deeply valued these books and wanted them to find a home with someone who would appreciate them just as much.

About the Collection
This auction offers a an opportunity to obtain one or more volumes from this complete ten-volume set of the renowned Mallis Handbook of Pest Control, donated by Kathy Hedges in honor of Stoy’s legacy. During his 25-year career as Senior Technical Entomologist with Terminix International, Stoy was known as the company’s in-house “answer man,” supporting over 4,000 technicians nationwide. His work and leadership helped shape modern pest management, transforming the industry from “extermination” to today’s science-driven profession.
