A Pi Chi Omega membership meeting was held on Tuesday, January 7th sponsored by Syngenta, RJM Contracting, Inc. and Insects Limited, Inc. Approximately 30 members enjoyed dinner and fellowship in the West Faculty Lounge of the Purdue Memorial Union.
A short business meeting was conducted by Mark “Shep” Sheperdigian. Shep hit on the highlights of the past Pi Chi Omega year and shared goals for his presidency. To learn more about them, click here to read Shep’s President’s message.
Tom Mueller shared information about two new initiatives being developed that will allow Pi Chi Omega members to “Give Back” to the Industry. Both programs are being developed under the Pi Chi Omega Gives Back Committee and will include a Junior Entomologist Program and a Pi Chi Omega Facebook Forum.
Dave Mueller and Judy Dold also briefed the membership on efforts to encourage Purdue to fill the Osmun Endowed Chair. Nicky Gallagher also shared information about a similar effort at Ohio State University to encourage them to fill Dr. Susan Jones’ position. Pi Chi Omega members may be called upon shortly to write letters of support to both of these institutions.
At the end of the meeting the winner of the 50/50 Raffle was pulled. The fundraiser sold $1170 in raffle tickets. Half of the pot, or $585, went to support the vision and mission of the Fraternity. James Miller, who purchased two “arms lengths” of tickets was the winner of the other half of the pot. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and made this fundraiser a success!
