On Thursday evening during PestWorld 2019, a mass of people converged on the Marriott Marquis Tequila Bar & Grille to socialize, recruit new members and hold a 50/50 fundraiser raffle to support the Vision & Mission of Pi Chi Omega. Over margaritas and around fire pits, attendees enjoyed a lively evening. Dr. Susan Jones, who was not present for the membership meeting, was surprised with the Pi Chi Omega Award of Achievement, presented to her by Nicky Gallagher. Conversations held during this event and at the Pi Chi Omega booth resulted in 7 new nominations with several additional people interested in membership information. The 50/50 raised $710 to support Pi Chi Omega and James Miller won the other half of the pot. It should be noted that James purchased 4 “arms lengths” of tickets, so was the single strongest supporter of the fundraiser and had pretty strong odds! Everyone who played the Pi Chi Omega Scavenger Hunt game received a free drink ticket for this event. Those who completed their game card and completed the mission statement were entered into a drawing for HomeDepot gift cards. David Moore won a $25 Home Depot gift card, Santos Port won a $50 Home Depot gift card Mark Swihart won a $100 Home Depot gift card. This game, and each of the events held at PestWorld, certainly fulfilled our mission to connect and enrich the urban pest management community.
